Could you tell me which sentence is right please?
I would rather go to church than go to the cinema
I would rather go to church instead of going to the cinema

Si les deux sont justes laquelle est la plus utilisée.
Et avec "prefer" Même question
He prefers to stay home rather than going to work
He prefers to stay home rather than to go to work

I would rather go to church instead of going to the cinema...non,c'est faux; la structure est : would rather...than, pas instead of

Et avec "prefer" Même question
He prefers to stay home rather than going to work ...non, infinitif puis v-ing ne fonctionne pas
He prefers to stay home rather than ~~(to)~~ go to work ...le 2e 'to' est en trop

Je viens de lire sur le site :

Avec des verbes et des structures infinitives :

I prefer to have coffee rather than to have chocolate.
Je préfère prendre du café que prendre du chocolat.

Ce qui contredit votre réponse :
He prefers to stay home rather than (to) go to work ...le 2e 'to' est en trop

Faut il mettre le (TO) après rather than?

Pardon pour toutes ces questions mais je viens de lire :
He prefers to write letters to writing emails.
(Il préfére écrire des lettres au lieu de email.)

Peut on mettre le gérondif après TO ?

ça ne contredit rien, c'est juste un autre choix; je trouve que le 2e 'to' est inutile, je n'ai pas dit que c'était faux.

He prefers to write letters to writing emails. ...là par contre c'est faux car il faut choisir entre 2 infinitifs ou 2 gérondifs
He prefers to write letters rather than to write emails
He prefers writing letters to writing emails

Il y a tant de subtilités en anglais ( comme dans d'autres langues) que l'on y perd son "latin"
