Notion/Spaces & Exchanges
Message de lelouch posté le 25-02-2017 à 15:45:07 (S | E | F)
Bonjour,
J'aurais besoin d'un peu d'aide pour m'aider à corriger mes notions
Merci d'avance pour vos réponses.

The notion I'm going to deal with is Spaces and exchanges. Indeed, all societies are somehow defined by the geographical and symbolic spaces they occupy and the way they open up the spaces. Through trade, conquest, emigration and communication, nations have always influenced others beyond their borders. This is the case of the United-Kingdom which has left its mark on the territories of its colonial conquests but in return has its own society open to the world.
To what extent is the United-Kingdom a country open to the world ?
Firstly we’ll see why Great Britain can be considered as an open country and then I’ll talk about limits of this opening.

I – On one hand, the United Kingdom is country open to the world.
A) First, the multiculturalism is a great actor of the opening of UK to the world.
Indeed, there are a lot of different culture which are present in UK. For example, the « London Mela » is a famous festival : the cream of South Asian music & culture. It is also one of the biggest celebrations of Asian music in Europe ! The musical line-up will include Asian pop to Muslim hip-hop, Bhangra & Bollywoods hit as well as respected as Indian classical musicians.
Moreover the “Carnaval de Pueblo”, the Europe’s largest outdoor Latin American event happens in the South of London. Music will range from reggae to samba and Latin hip-hop on several stages…
B) What’s more the Commonwealth is also a good reason of this opening.
The Commonwealth of Nations is an intergovernmental organization of 54 members states set up following the Imperial Conference of 1926. Though is it not a political union, all member states are expected to respect certain common values and goals such as democracy and human rights. Strong links are maintained though events that’s why a lot of migrants (from India for example) from Commonwealth’s countries are coming in UK. That increase the multiculturalism in UK.

II – But on the other hand, this opening has limits:
A) Indeed, not every British agree the government policy about immigration. For example the UKIP (The United Kingdom Independence Party) fights against the immigration and want to reduce it. We saw in class a lot of poster with slogans like « No border. No control : EU has opened our borders to 4000 people every week » or « The immigration is three times higher than the tories promised ». On each poster there are escalator with “welcome” signs. These escalators lead to UK. It symbolizes the flow of migrant coming in UK…
B) Besides, BREXIT (Britain-exit) which is in part a consequence of immigration, is reducing the opening of UK to the world. Less strangers can come in UK and share their cultures. Exchanges between UK & Europe are going to decrease. It shows that people can’t accept too much opening so it has limits.

In a nutshell, UK is a country open to the world because there are a lot of different cultures (latin, Asian…) thanks to migrants coming from the Commonwealth’s countries and the rest of the world. However citizens in UK wanted this opening to stop and that’s why they voted in favor of the BREXIT.
