Hello everybody,
I've recently seen something whichtrouble seems strange to me..."I do apologise"
- Why is 'do' placed between "I" and "apologise" ?
- Is there a difference among "I do apologise" and "I apologise" ?
- Can I do it with other verbs "I do eat" "I do play" and so on ...
- Isn't there a form which is used more than the other one ?
If someone can help me, it will be very nice (Maybe the question is stupid and sorry for that but i really don't get it)
Have a nice evening !

Hello !
The question isn't stupid at all ... but the answer is quite simple.
DO isn't a verb; but an auxiliary which is used to insist on an action. You can use it with every verb ... I do work = Je travaille vraiment !
I do help you ! = je t'aide vraiment.
I do work, but I play quite often !
or I work, but I do play sometimes ...
Cherchez 'forme emphatique' dans le rectangle jaune, en haut, à droite !

Bon courage !

Hello,
comme vous l'aurez compris suite aux deux messages précédents, on utilise do et did en forme d'insistance (emphatique)mais uniquement en forme affirmative:
Do sit down! Asseyez-vous donc!
Do help yourself: Mais servez-vous, je vous en prie.
I do love you, whatever you might think: Mais je t'aime vraiment, quoi que tu en dises!
I did see a ghost: she was wearing violets in her hair and pursuing me with a great big knife saying "I am here for you" (cauchemar récent) Je vous assure que j'ai vu un fantôme!
En forme négative, ça ne marche pas, il faut faire autrement;
I definitely didn't cook your cat!
I absolutely don't agree with you.
