Bonjour à tous
J'ai besoin de votre aide ;en effet, j'ai un problème avec le mot anglais : "exercise"à l'infinitif au singulier ou bien au pluriel .
Indeed I wrote to my correspondent : "I did my exercise" (because there was only one exercise to do) but he corrected me this way : "I did my exerciseS" with his explanation. He is not English but he helps me to improve.
Here is his explanation:
1- exercise: We use it when we are talking about a single question among the other questions in the same group or another group of questions.
2- exerciseS: We use it when we are talking about more than a single question in the same group or many different groups of questions.
3- exercise always SINGULAR unless we talk about the KINDS of it): It is doing sports .
Je pense qu'il a tort puisqu'un exercice est bien singulier, même si on a répondu à quelques questions de cet exercice.
I did one exercise / I did two exercises.

Hello,
A mon avis, le mot 'exercise' s'emploie de la même façon qu'en français.
J'ai un exercice de maths à faire = I have a maths exercise to do
J'aime les exercices sur ce site = I like the exercises on this website
En effet, il vous a mal corrigée.
